Humanity 100 Fable #5 The Raw Meat Tribe (From Fables Never Told on Earth)

Illustrated by T. Andrew Jones

Before modernity mankind lived in hunter-gatherer tribes
and all tribes ate meat raw.
In time tribes independently learned how to start fires
and began to cook.
One tribe refused to cook meat. They called themselves
The Raw Meat Tribe.
The elders of The Raw Meat Tribe said cooked meat was cursed
and tribes that cooked meat were evil.
Then at the dawn of civilization A boy asked an elder,
“Why is cooked meat cursed?”
The elder said, “Because it’s tradition.”
The boy asked, “How did the tradition start?”
The elder said, “When the other tribes abandoned the ways of their ancestors.”
The boy accepted the answer and continued the proud tradition
of a proud tribe that the other tribes called:

The tribe that didn’t know how to make fire
